I find a lot of peace and comfort from reading, especially when I’m going through crazy times like this. These are some of my favorite books that are helping me get through this wild ass time. Check it out below.
Homie by Danez Smith

Danez Smith is a queer POZ writer based in St. Paul MN. I picked this up when I was working in Silicon Valley, and their poetry kept me sane while working in a sea of white Tesla owners.
Born A Crime by Trevor Noah

I’m so proud of my husband, this book is hilarious. He tells sweet stories about growing up in apartheid South Africa and shares important historical information about the crazy laws enforced during that time.
Heart Talk by Cleo Wade

This book of poetry helped me get through some of the toughest times in my life. Through Heart Talk she shares simple mantras and poems that can help you learn to accept what comes and love yourself for who you are.
Notes of a Native Son by James Baldwin

Anyone who has read James Baldwin knows how transformative his writing is, especially if you are both parts black and queer. This book helped me to understand and articulate the nuances of my experience in a way I wasn’t able to prior.
I Can’t Date Jesus by Micheal Arceneaux

This book is hella entertaining and he shares hilarious stories about coming out, and being from Houston, Texas - my hometown! He also shares personal stories about the church and exploring intimacy.
