#blacklivesmatter #icantbreathe
I spent the day trying to avoid seeing another modern-day lynching on my news feed. Once I saw it, I went completely numb. It was a feeling I’m all too familiar with. I’m beyond tired, beyond heartbroken, and I wish godspeed to the people of Minnesota who are taking justice into their own hands. Every time I scroll I see black people dying. Every video I watch I pray that this will be the last story, the last hashtag, but it keeps going, and we tried kneeling, we tried protesting peacefully, what other options do we have?
For every Sandra Bland, there is a Breonna Taylor, for every Eric Garner there is a George Floyd, and the names keep growing every week. So I applaud the people who choose to riot. In a nation where the norm is being underpaid, under-appreciated, and oppressed, the one thing we cannot accept is Black Death at the hands of the police. Black Lives Matter and until that is clear I see every reason to fight against the country that is killing us.
